Voting and Voters

The next municipal election will take place on Monday, October 24th, 2022. Advanced voting will begin on Wednesday, October 19th at 9:00 am.

You are entitled to vote in the Township of South Glengarry if you are:

  • a resident of the municipality, or are the owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such owner or tenant;
  • a Canadian citizen;
  • at least 18 years old on voting day; and
  • not prohibited from voting under subsection 17(3) of the Municipal Elections Act or otherwise by law. 

In order to vote, you  must be a registered voter in the Township of South Glengarry. All electors on the Voters' List will receive a Voter Information Letter which will contain your unique voting PIN. You will need this PIN in order to vote by telephone or Internet.

The Township of South Glengarry will be offering telephone and Internet voting for the 2022 municipal election. Information about how to vote using the telephone or Internet will be provided to registered voters in the Voter Information Letter, which will be mailed towards the end of September.

Candidates

To run for a position on Council, you must be eligible to vote in the Township of South Glengarry. On the day you file your nomination, you must be a Canadian citizen aged 18 or older and qualify as a resident or non-resident elector. 

Interested Candidates must make an appointment with the Clerk to file their nomination papers by emailing kcampeau@southglengarry.com or calling 613-347-1166 ext. 2102. 

When meeting with the Clerk, the candidate should bring a completed Nomination Form, Endorsement of Nomination Forms, proof of identity and the required filing fee. Additional information and links to the required forms are available on the Candidates page.

The Township of South Glengarry's Council is composed of 5 members: one (1) Mayor, one (1) Deputy Mayor and three (3) Councillors.

Township of South Glengarry residents may run for positions as a School Board Trustee for the following Boards. Please note the appropriate municipality where you can submit your nomination for the various School Board Trustee positions:
